Shareholders of Harris & Harris Group, Inc. may be interested in reading two articles in the May/June 2003 issue of Small Times magazine. The first article on page 50 notes that Optiva's thin-crystal film polarizers won the gold award for display material or component of the year at the eighth annual Society for Information Display International Symposium. Optiva is developing and commercializing a new class of nanomaterials for advanced optical applications, initially for the flat panel display industry. Optiva is the second largest tiny-technology investment in Harris & Harris Group's portfolio. Harris & Harris Group has invested a total of $1,250,000 in Optiva. The second article on page 53 notes that privately held Nanosys, Inc. has raised $30 million despite a poor funding environment. Nanosys is developing nanotechnology-enabled systems incorporating novel and patent-protected zero and one-dimensional nanometer-scale materials such as nanowires, nanotubes and nanodots (quantum dots). Nanosys is the largest tiny-technology investment in Harris & Harris Group's portfolio. Harris & Harris Group, Inc. invested $1,500,000 in Nanosys in April 2003.
